December 1972, marks a time of change for the Arnolds. Norma graduates from Fremont Community College and the newly unemployed Jack invests in the future when he and his friend, Charlie tries to get a bank loan to open their own furniture factory business. However, this being the holiday season, his partner backs out at the last minute and returns to NORCOM to support his family. But with Norma's help, Jack manages to get the loan after all. Also, Kevin has his own problems trying to get a raise from his boss, Mr. Chong so he can buy Winnie an expensive cashmere sweater after he and Jeff see her at the mall with a big wrapped box. Thinking the gift was for him, Kevin spent has hard earned money on Winnie when all she gives him is a new Bread album. (This marks the fourth Christmas episode of the series.)
