Norma takes a job as a temporary secretary in the attendance office at Kevin's school, putting a dent in Kevin's "cool" factor. During a fire drill, Norma embarrasses Kevin by waving and saying "hi, honey" to him in front of his peers, causing them to make fun of him. This incident makes Kevin talk to his mother about not speaking to him while at school, which she obliges. Then class bully Tony Barbella confronts Kevin while in the bathroom to steal him a green late pass since he has "connections" in the front office, but Norma catches him and he puts it back. However, Norma has other things on her mind and tells Kevin Mr. Diperna fired her because her typing wasn't up to snuff, causing her to apply for enrollment at Rider Community College.
